Year-Round Events!

Whether winter or spring, summer or fall, the 4 Seasons at Beech offers a perfect place for rest, relaxation, and recreation! Beech Mountain offers a host of year-round recreational opportunities and events! There is an extensive system of hiking trails and cycling routes, and guided hikes throughout the year! The Emerald Outback is the newest addition to the hiking & cycling trail system! This adventure trail park offers approximately 10 miles of trails with elevations ranging from 4700’ to 5400’, offering 100-mile views of the North Carolina High Country! The Buckeye Lake Recreation Center offers indoor & outdoor walking tracks, indoor tennis courts & basketball courts, fitness center, ball field, indoor playroom with soft playground equipment, cozy library with fireplace and wireless internet, & state-of-the-art playground! Visitors can enjoy watercolor classes, fitness classes, overnight camping trips, canoeing & kayaking excursions, guided fly fishing, & community bonfires! Buckeye Lake, a pristine 7-acre lake, and smaller Lake Coffey are both stocked with trout for some of the best fishing in the High Country!

All Summer

An Appalachian Summer Festival – Appalachian State University in Boone offers many performances varied between music, theatre, dance, & visual arts
The Beech Mountain Club – 18-hole golf course, ten hard clay tennis courts, outdoor heated pool, fitness center, & fine dining restaurant
Beech Mountain Street Dances – Boogie down with the DJ on the sand-covered dance floor at the top of Beech Mountain!
Beech Mountain Sunset Concerts – Variety of musicians perform throughout the summer at the gazebo of Fred’s General Mercantile & the lawn of the Inns of Beech!

Farmers Markets – Held regularly in Banner Elk, Boone, & Blowing Rock
High Country Concerts – A variety of concerts held regularly throughout the summer in Banner Elk, Valle Crucis, Newland, Todd, Boone, & Blowing Rock!
Lees-McRae Summer Theatre – Enjoy fabulous performances like Chicago, Oklahoma, & Singing in the Rain in nearby Banner Elk!
Ski Lift Rides at Beech Mountain Resort – Enjoy scenic rides to the top of the ski slopes!
Watauga Lake – 6,400-acre lake to enjoy fishing, boating, & water skiing! Located in Hampton, TN, about 50 minutes from Beech!

Every January – Winterfest at Beech Mtn. Resort! Live music, Cardboard Box Derby, Rail Jam, & live ice sculpting! Kids’ Snow Day Camp with activities like ice skating, face painting, & craft making!

July 11-14 – 58th Annual Highland Games on Grandfather Mountain – Hundreds come each year to the gathering of the Scottish Clans & Highland Games! Bagpiping concert, sheep herding exhibitions, ancient heavyweight events and strength competitions, like Turning the Caber, highland wrestling, and the ever-popular Friday night Celtic Jam!

July 19-20 – Bikes, Brews and Views – Dual Slalom & Downhill USA Cycling Races at Beech Mountain Resort! Held in conjunction with live music, games, & beer tasting of over 30 craft brews!

July 27 – Beech Mountain Contra Dance

August 3 – Crafts on the Green – Almost 70 vendors selling photography, pottery, paintings, bird houses & wood works, jewelry, metal works, clothing, & more!

August 18 – Cycling race at Beech Mountain Resort

August 31 – Beech Mountain Dog Show

September 1 – 11th Mile High Kite Festival

September 28 – Cycling race at Beech Mountain Resort

October 5-6 – Autumn at OZ Party – Every October! Begin at “Kansas” with live music, dancing, food & beverages, crafts, & hay rides! Ski lifts bring guests up to Oz for tours of the Land of Oz!

October 12 – Countryside Hayride

October 19-20 – The Woolly Worm Festival – Annual event attracting over 20,000 people for food & craft vendors, live entertainment, and the famous woolly worm races!

October 19 – 35th Annual Valle Country Fair – An overgrown church bazaar set in the center of Valle Crucis, one of the most picturesque valleys in the NC mountains at the peak of the colors of the fall foliage! Over 150 fine art & crafts booths, freshly pressed apple cider, homemade jams, jellies, & apple butter, and Brunswick stew, chili, & barbecue! Variety of performances, including bluegrass, storytelling, & clogging!

October 26 – Halloween Celebration

November 30 – Holiday Market and PPK Contest

December 14 – Santa Visits Beech Mountain
